Durante l'edizione di SmackDown del 19 giugno, Jey Uso ha sconfitto Je’Von Evans, staccando il pass per Night of Champions, dove affronterà Oba Femi nella finale del torneo. Il vincitore si aggiudicherà la corona e un'opportunità per il titolo mondiale a SummerSlam; non si trattava dunque di una semplice vittoria televisiva.

Il problema? Molti fan avrebbero voluto vedere Evans protagonista di quel momento. Dopo il match, Twitter è esploso con lamentele riguardo alla scelta della WWE di puntare ancora una volta su un nome affermato piuttosto che su una nuova stella. Un fan ha criticato la decisione, sostenendo che la WWE avrebbe dovuto sfruttare l'occasione per lanciare un nuovo talento.
