Fan in rivolta per la title shot di Cody Rhodes a SmackDown

Cody Rhodes è già tornato al centro della scena per il WWE Championship e molti fan non ne sono affatto entusiasti.

Dopo aver perso il WWE Championship contro Sami Zayn a Night of Champions, Cody ha ottenuto un altro title match nell'edizione di SmackDown del 3 luglio. Adam Pearce ha sancito Cody Rhodes contro Jey Uso per determinare il primo sfidante di Sami e Cody ha vinto il match con la Cross Rhodes.

Ciò significa che Cody affronterà Sami Zayn con in palio il WWE Championship nella puntata di RAW del 6 luglio, a meno di una settimana dalla perdita del titolo. Per alcuni fan, questo è stato sufficiente per criticare le scelte di booking della WWE.

Un fan su Twitter si è chiesto quale fosse il senso di far perdere il titolo a Cody se poi è stato subito reinserito nella corsa: "Qual era il punto di fargli perdere il titolo, solo per renderlo n.1 contender e fargli riprendere subito la cintura?". Un altro fan è stato ancora più duro, accusando la WWE di aver mascherato quello che ai suoi occhi è un rematch automatico.

“Chi se lo sarebbe aspettato? Che stronzata inventarsi questo match per distrarre dal fatto che un midcarder spinto oltre misura stia ottenendo un rematch automatico per il titolo, nonostante la clausola del rematch automatico sia stata abolita anni fa. Che imbarazzo!”

La frustrazione non si è fermata qui. Un altro fan ha dichiarato di averne semplicemente abbastanza di vedere Cody nel giro titolato, scrivendo: “Basta con questo tizio… non capite l'aria che tira? Tutti sono stufi di lui. Date il titolo a qualcun altro, per l'amor di Dio”.

Un altro fan ha avvertito la WWE che riportare la cintura su Cody renderebbe le cose solo peggiori, specialmente per gli spettatori che ritengono che la compagnia stia inseguendo le reazioni sui social invece di una narrazione a lungo termine.

“Se Cody vince la cintura a Raw, confermerete solo che tutto quello che fate è un 'social media booking' per click a breve termine e che state solo allontanando il pubblico, come dimostrano gli ascolti. Cody potrebbe essere interessante anche senza cintura o senza doverla rincorrere, se solo vi impegnaste un minimo lol.”

Un fan si è spinto oltre pubblicando un'immagine grezza creata con l'IA che ritrae Cody e Triple H, suggerendo che il favoritismo sia il vero motivo per cui Cody continua a ricevere queste opportunità. Il fan ha scritto: “Sapete perché Cody ottiene sempre il suo rematch??? Il motivo è quello.”

Naturalmente, Cody ha tecnicamente guadagnato questa chance battendo Jey Uso a SmackDown, quindi la WWE può usare quel match come giustificazione narrativa per il suo status di primo sfidante di Sami. Tuttavia, è la tempistica a scatenare le ire. Cody ha perso il titolo meno di una settimana fa e ora è a una sola vittoria dal riconquistarlo.

Ora la pressione su RAW è decisamente aumentata. Se Sami batte Cody, la WWE potrà dimostrare che si è trattato solo di una prima difesa per il nuovo campione. Se Cody dovesse riconquistare subito il titolo, le critiche su una gestione frettolosa da parte della WWE diventeranno inevitabilmente ancora più forti.
