Matt Hardy ha scritto su Twitter di essere rimasto scioccato e addolorato dalla notizia. Avendo lavorato con Williams in AEW, Hardy lo ha ricordato tanto per la persona che era nel backstage quanto per il suo talento nel wrestling e nella musica.

“Addolorato e scioccato nell'apprendere della scomparsa di Andy Williams. È stato un piacere lavorare con Andy: era una persona gentile, divertente e profonda, oltre che un musicista e wrestler di estremo talento. I miei pensieri e le mie preghiere vanno alla famiglia, agli amici e ai fan di Andy. Riposa in pace, fratello.”

Anche Ben Bishop sperava che le notizie iniziali su Williams fossero errate. I due non si conoscevano particolarmente bene, ma Bishop ha ricordato come Williams fosse sempre prodigo di complimenti nei suoi confronti e le chiacchierate che facevano sullo strano mondo del wrestling professionistico.

“Speravo che questa storia fosse stata riportata erroneamente. Ho avuto solo poche interazioni con Andy, ma era sempre gentile. Abbiamo riso e scherzato su quanto possa essere assurdo il business del wrestling. Abbiamo parlato della speranza di condividere un ring un giorno e di quanto sarebbe stato divertente. In un'altra vita, amico mio. Riposa in pace, una brava persona. ❤️”

Parker Boudreaux ha espresso un breve messaggio di cordoglio: “Riposa in pace Andy Williams… 😪💔”. Athena ha ricordato un lato completamente diverso di Williams: al di là dei match o degli aneddoti sul wrestling, ciò che le mancherà di più sarà chiacchierare con lui e scambiarsi ricette di cucina.

“Una notizia davvero terribile con cui svegliarsi. Sei sempre stato così gentile e mi mancherà davvero parlare con te e scambiarci ricette. Riposa in pace Butcher. Le mie condoglianze a tutti gli amici e alla famiglia.”

Williams è deceduto dopo aver accusato un malore durante un evento della Enjoy Wrestling al Mr. Smalls Theatre di Millvale, in Pennsylvania. Si è accasciato al termine di un tag team match che vedeva coinvolti The Blade e il TME; il personale medico ha immediatamente praticato il massaggio cardiaco prima del trasporto in ospedale. L'ufficio del medico legale della contea di Allegheny ha successivamente confermato il decesso.

Williams ha intrattenuto i fan per anni nel ruolo di The Butcher in AEW, costruendo parallelamente una carriera distinta come chitarrista dei Every Time I Die. I only had a few interactions with Andy. But he was always complimentary. We laughed and joked about how silly the wrestling business can be.

He looked like he could throw you through a wall (he could if he wanted!) but was so warmhearted & soft spoken.

I got into ETID in 2004, and Andy was an enigma to me from the jump. My teenage years were spent listening to those albums with my friends, which are memories that can’t ever be replaced.

Taking these photos of him and sharing them with those friends meant a lot.
